Teachers, have you ever wanted to, but been leery of, teaching a few theater skills in your classroom? A book just for you, taking your schedule into consideration, comes out May 2008. <Instant Theater for Children, Step-by-Step Lessons to Teach Basic Theater Skills, an opportunity to enhance creativity & self-esteem, strengthen verbal skills, and improve literacy. Marian Scadden has taken three decades of children’s theater and melted it down into easy lessons.
Coming May 2009:

About School Performances:
All of our plays and programs have some to a lot of interaction with the audience. We want the children to get involved and experience theatre in at least a small way, opening doors to enjoying the performing arts for a lifetime. We are happy to report that many young lives have been touched in positive ways, from the child in Headstart who “found his voice”, to the autistic young man in the 5th grade who opened up when he played his part, to the 9-year-old girl who told her mother, “I’m going to be smiling the whole day.” We love our job!

We also love to read. In our plays, we encourage the children to read and “play.”

It takes us 15-30 minutes to set up for and strike (tear down) after a performance. Microphones are not needed but are appreciated for Mime Loud & Clear; A to Zeus; and Big Steps. We don’t use microphones for the plays.
5-min. of Entertainment at your Meeting:
May we show you a bit of what we do? Please allow us to prove our worth to your school. We’ll send in a mime, or perhaps Paul Bunyan or Zeus, to your PTA, PTO or Faculty Meeting. After a 5-min. performance, weÕll drop a brochure, answer questions you may have, and leave. Or we can just come in and tell you about what we do. Our apologies in advance: we may not be able to accommodate every request, due to distance or timing.
Special Pricing
To accomodate schools’ student populations, we have special prices for the same show to be performed twice at one school. The shows must be back-to-back, with the second show starting 15-30 minutes after the first one has ended. Our page, Children’s Shows, has show descriptions or download our catalog for more details.
These programs are $345.00 for two 45-minute performances (mileage may apply):
  • A to Zeus: Greek Mythology
  • Big Steps: American Tall Tales
  • Mime Loud & Clear
These plays are $405.00 for two 45-minute performances (mileage may apply):
  • Jack & the Beanstalk
  • The Missing Pet
  • Princess on a Pea
  • Paul Bunyan
  • Puss in Boots
  • Tortoise & the Hare
School Family Nights; School Carnivals:
We can create short workshops to go along with your Family Night themes. Parents and children might create mime skits in only a 20-min session; they might return home ready to practice projection. The point is they’re learning together. For school carnivals, we can provide wandering characters or short shows.
Residencies, workshops, and classes are fully described in our catalog. They can be adjusted to fit your needs. Please read the catalog or call us.
Teacher Inservices. Not only do we have classes for children, we have classes for the teachers on incorporating theater in the classroom to benefit the students.
